The corner shower base is an integral part of the corner shower and is also the most difficult to install as compared to the other two sections namely the shower surround and the walls of the shower bath. The tray of the shower base is available in different shapes like square, pentangle, rectangle, and quadrant or walk-in and can be chosen according to the individual preferences of the user.

While a square tray is recommended for an alcove or a corner, a pentangle tray is ideal for tight corners where as the rectangle tray should be selected for spacious bathrooms. Hence, when one has to consider factors like costs, maintenance and looks, acrylic bases and floors are not recommended while a foundation of mud-set pan base or a waterproof extruded polystyrene base are a must. The base supports of the shower base, which are built into the shower support base, must be placed on an evenly leveled sub-floor, which may or may not be plywood. In case of a sub-floor other than plywood, one would need to place sufficient amount of padding in form of spun-bonded landscape fabric or house wrap material in between to prevent squeaking.

Regular cleaning of shower base must be carried out by using only mild detergents or warm, soapy water both of which are applied with a soft cloth followed by rinsing and drying. Cleaning should be conducted as per the manufacturer’s instructions which are usually provided in the manual at the time of purchase.
